Cold Weather Brings Water Hazards

Water Damage

It’s finally here! Cold weather is upon us and the threat of frozen pipes is near. Do you know what to do to avoid pipes bursting and your house flooding with water? There are a few simple things you can do to help keep your pipes from freezing.

  1. Keep sinks dripping. Turning the water on to keep water moving through the pipes that are exposed to outside walls can keep them from freezing up.
  2. Drain the pipes to the outside faucet. No water means to freezing pipes.
  3. Use a cover for the faucets outside. A cover specifically designed to cover outside faucets is usually made from Styrofoam and keeps the wind from lowering the temperature of the faucet and the pipes behind it.
  4. Check the sinks for leaks. Look under sinks for any leaks. If there are leaks, you may need to turn the water off to the house to avoid further water damage.
