Spring and summer times bring steady rains that will find a way into your home. Constant moisture does more than ruin your foundation, it could cause problems for you by helping black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum) grow. Places with high cellulose content like gypsum board, press board, and paper all have the content needed to help black mold grow and cause more problems. Since mold is airborne, it can travel to other parts of your home through ventilation ducts.
The CDC writes, “Stachybotrys chartarum is a greenish-black mold. Growth occurs when there is moisture from water damage, water leaks, condensation, water infiltration, or flooding. Constant moisture is required for its growth.”. Also, “To date, a possible association between acute idiopathic pulmonary hemorrhage among infants and Stachybotrys chartarum has not been proven. Further studies are needed to determine what causes acute idiopathic hemorrhage”.
Any health risks for your family should be taken seriously.
