Frightening Places Mold Could be Lurking in Your Home

mold

Most households, including yours, will fall victim to mold growth at some point or another. Mold can be not only gross and unsightly, but also a very serious health hazard. Here are a few frightening places where mold could be hiding in your home:

The Bathroom

Most of us realize that bathrooms are havens for mold growth. Mold thrives in moist conditions and few places in your home are wetter than the bathroom. But those tiles in the shower aren’t the only place that mold can accumulate. Be sure to check all sinks and toilets extremely carefully. The spaces behind and underneath these fixtures are also prime locations for mold growth.

Then, take a close look at your toothpaste/toothbrush caddies and any areas in which cleaning products are stored. The excess moisture that goes hand in hand with the use of these items presents a prime environment for mold.

The Kitchen

Storage spaces under kitchen sinks are also common places for mold to accumulate, as are unkempt refrigerator crispers and shelves. Other problem areas, however, may not be as obvious. Look closely, because mold may be lurking:

  • Under the refrigerator.
  • In and around the dishwasher.
  • Inside the coffeepot of your home coffee maker.
  • On the stove, in the microwave, and any place else where food may accidentally spill.

Other Problem Areas

Check for mold in any places that may collect moisture or rarely get thoroughly cleaned. These places include:

  • Windowsills
  • Basements
  • Attics
  • Garages
  • Carpeting, upholstery, and curtains
  • Fireplaces and chimneys
  • Washing machines and dryers
  • HVAC ducts
  • Indoor plants
